Underrated aspect of how Dems lost working/middle class is that not just the party, but elite institutions more generally, have been pulling up the ladder for my entire adult life and have largely replaced it with “networking” (for those who can afford it, naturally) & performative diversity.

Does the specter of judges being arrested not spook the members of the other coequal branch just on gp? He’s so mercurial that any given individual’s/contituency’s interests are bound to diverge from his, and if they do their job and speak up, they get death threats. It’s almost a labor issue!

I think this is where they’re the furthest out over their skis; it’s really only a tiny minority that believes this and there aren’t going to be *that* many more who can practice it. The center of gravity of how most Americans think about their community is just that much better and is hard to move.
