Must be said again and again, the police are defunding us. Our schools our parks our trains, literally everything.

Thinking a bit about something from college. A professor once critiqued “liberal” frustrations with Lord of the Rings. Basically the idea that it was too black/white a story morally, with no complexity or moral greyness to it. He wanted to push back on this reading.

His point was that Tolkien wasn’t telling a story where the conflict arose because people were unsure about what was morally good. Instead the conflict arose bc people knew exactly what the right thing to do was, but the question was if they had the courage to act on this knowledge
